80th School Prize Presentation Day
The guest-of-honour at the 80th Prize Presentation Day on 4 April 2008 was Mr Tan Choon Seng, an old student of the School. He is currently the Group Chief Executive of Wearne Brothers Ltd.
Mr Tan was a student of the School from 1965 to 1968. He took his ‘O’ level examination in 1968, and thereafter, he left to do his ‘A’ level in
another neighbourhood school in Serangoon Gardens. He is a graduate of the University of Singapore (Accountancy) and a fellow of the CPA (Singapore).
In his speech, Mr Tan said that during the time he was a student, many teachers, including Mr Pang Ek Kwang, who later became a Pastor, Mr Chai Ai Kok, who passed on, and Mrs Edwinda Yu had impacted on his life. They were not only his teachers, but mentors and friends. For them, they only had words of encouragement and a dash of wisdom to impart to the students.
He said that he valued the mentors, as they were useful sounding boards and “reflective mirrors’, which he believes have served him well later in life. In Serangoon Secondary School, he has found lasting friendship, and a great educational experience, which he treasures.
