Write-up on Ms Angie Tang, a winner of the Enterprise 50 Award 2008

Franklin Offshore Holdings Pte Ltd is one of Singapore’s leading SME. It began operations more than 20 years ago in 1985 with a wokforce of 5 workers. It was started by an enterprising lady Ms Angie Tang. Ms Tang did not launch her company immediately after she left Serangoon Secondary School in 1975 on completion of her ‘O’ level. She went to work for a shipyard and, later joined an oil rigging company

In view of her work in marketing and sales, she acquired valuable experience in the shipyard sector and open the door to many business contacts and, Franklin Offshore Holdings Pte Ltd was born.

Today, Ms Angie Tang is the Chief Executive of Franklin Offshore Holdings Pte Ltd. With 14 subsidiaries in 7 countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Britain, United States, South Korea, Indonesia and Qatar, the company deals in spools, steel cabinets, hydraulic winches, barge cranes, giant anchor chains and buoys. It is also ISO-certified and has a turnover of USS$100 million(S$245 million) last  year, and a  workforce of 543 workers

The success of the enterprise was phenomenal – it has not lost a cent since the beginning. It began small but it grew. All was not due to luck although luck played an important part. Ms Tang places great emphasis on quality products, service and innovation and value customer satisfaction and trust. The company also strives to deliver on time, the first time, every time.

An an important  ingredient of Franklin Offshore Holding’s success, lie with the fact that all its senior management team, including herself, except for those in Finance are involved in sales and marketing in Singapore and elsewhere.

The company is still expanding and is looking for suitable sites. Continuing research and development activities, constant work safety courses and on-site training by foreign experts have kept Franklin’s work force ahead of its competitors.

Franklin, also firmly believes in staff welfare and family togetherness. Besides a host of staff welfare programmes, including work incentive bonuses, they also involve spouses and family in the workforce in their activities.

Ms Tang is proud and honoured to be a winner of the Enterprise 50 (E50) Award.

We, the Serangoon Alumni, are also proud that she was a product of Serangoon Secondary School. The fact that she did not hesitate to mention the School in the

Straits Times Special of 24 November 2008 shows that she is proud to have come from the humble neighbourhood school. We salute her.

Once again congratulations, Ms Angie Tang for being the leading SME in Singapore.
