Launch of SSS Scholarship

The SSS Scholarship took off on 29 January 2010. Aim of the Scholarship is basically to help provide additional financial support for students going on to JCs and Polytechnics after completing their “O” levels.

School’s Annual Road Run

The School’s Annual Road Run was held at Punggol Park on Friday, 5 March 2010. It was flagged off at 7.45 am by the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Wee Eng Huat. He also lighted the Road Run Torch, and together with the Principal and a team of relay runners carried the torch to the School, where it remained until all the prizes were given away.

This year, Lowland House was the Champion in the Road Run.

27th Alumni Annual General Meeting

The 27th Annual general meeting (AGM) was held at the Serangoon Secondary School on 27 March 2010. Attended by 11 members, it was chaired by Ms Joyce Tham.

Ms Joyce Tham opened the meeting and spoke of the rather busy year for the Alumni in 2009.

School’s 82nd Prize Presentation Day

The School held the Prize Presentation Day on 9 April 2010.

Guest-of-Honour was Ms Deborah Barker, daughter of the late Mr E W Barker. The late Mr Barker was also a distinguished former student of the Serangoon English School.

Alumni Dinner Connect 2010

What a night to remember. The Alumni Connect 2010 was held at the Imperial Court Shark’s Fin Restaurant, The Grassroot’s Club, Ang Mo Kio.

Attended by well over 250 people comprising alumnus, their spouses, Principal, past and present, students, ex-students, friends and distinguished guests, Messrs Ngiam Tong Dow, Tee Tua Ba and Ms Carla Barker, daughter of the late Mr E W Barker.

Alumni Met Graduating Students

On 28 September 2010, the Alumni spoke to graduating students from Sec 4E, 4N/T and 5N regarding joining the Alumni as Junior Members. They were told that the membership was free, but it will only be for a period of 5 years after which they have to convert their membership to either Ordinary Life or Ordinary Membership.

The offer will be made to all graduating students yearly.

Many of the students were keen to join. At then end of the day, some 210 applications were received.

Teacher’s Day Dinner 2010

The Teacher’s Day Dinner was held on on 22 October 2010 at the Ballroom, Serangoon Garden Country Club. It was attended by the School’s teaching and non-teaching staff. The Alumni was represented by Messrs David Loh, Sylvester Heng, David Wang and Wee Eng Huat and Ms Joyce Tham.

SSS Scholarship

The SSS Scholarship was launched by the Alumni, School Advisory Committee and School on 29 January 2010, and fully funded by Alumni members and school.

The first two recipients of the SSS Scholarship were Mr Wong Rui Xiang and Ms Tan May Chin. Mr Wong received $1,500.00 whilst Ms Chin received $1,000.00.

Currently, the Scholarship Fund stands at $45.000.00.
