The Alumni has over the years seen many prominent politicians, public sector officials, industrialists, businessmen, property tycoons, sportsmen and playwrights and artists amongst its alumni.
One of the most illustrious and a leading son of Serangoon English School was the late Mr E W Barker, Singapore?s first Law Minister in the Cabinet of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, also Singapore?s first Prime Minister.
Another prominent alumnus is Mr Ngiam Tong Dow. Mr Ngiam was the Permanent Secretary for Finance from 1986 to 1999. Similarly, his brother, Dr Ngiam, the former Chief Executive Officer, Agri-food and Veterinary Authority was also an alumnus from Serangoon English School. Mr Tee Tua Ba, the Singapore?s former Police Chief was also an alumnus of the School. In addition, Mr Lee Chong Giam, one time Singapore?s High Commissioner to India was also another alumnus from the School.
Besides public officials and politicians, we have industrialists and prominent businessmen who are some of our Alumni members. One such person is Mr Bobby Lim Chye Huat, a leading industrialist and Managing Director of a publicly-listed Company in Singapore. Property tycoon, Mr James Koh is also a leading alumnus. Ms Angie Tan who deals in oil rigs and oil equipments is another of our prominent ex-student, and a alumnus from Serangoon Secondary School.
Mr Robert Yeo Cheng Chuan, a renown alumnus and a well-known poet, playwright and author in Singapore has established himself in the field of performing arts. He was also a lecturer in the National Institute of Education. Currently, he is a part-time lecturer in dramatic arts at the Singapore Management University.
Amongst our younger generation of former students from the Serangoon Secondary School, one who stands out is Ms Sia Joo Hiang, an up and coming artist. She has also staged solo art exhibitions in Singapore.
From the academic world, noted Alumni members are Professor Lenny Tan Kheng Ann, the former Dean of the Medical Faculty in the National University of Singapore (NUS). Also from NUS, we have Associate Professor Wong Poh Poh, who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President of the United States of America.
One of our leading alumni in the field of sports is Mr Richard Gomez, a track and field athlete and a national hockey player.
